Quote : Activision publishing CEO Mike Griffith has admitted that the firm isn't expecting this year's Treyarch-developed Call Of Duty 7 to eclipse sales of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2. But before you IW lovers get too high and mighty, Activision's caution has nothing to do with the game's developer: It's because the firm expects a tougher set of rival titles will hit shelves in the lead up to Christmas this year. Modern Warfare 2's dominance of the market is widely seen as the main reason some publishers postponed the release of triple-A releases from Christmas 2009 to the first quarter of this year. Speaking to investors earlier this evening about Activision's expectations for Call Of Duty 7, however, Griffith forecast that the same situation would not apply in 2010: "We've consistsently grown the Call Of Duty franchise revenues year-on-year for the past seven years. We expect to continue our stategy of annualising this franchise opportuntiy. At the same time, we recognise that Modern Wardfare 2 was an unprecedented success, driven in part by the game quality, our retail and marketing execution, and by the relatively friendly competitive environment [at Christmas]. "We expect to have a more difficult competitive environment this year, and therefore we've not planned on the same level of success [with 2010's CoD title] as we enjoyed in 2009. That said, we're still bullish on this year's title, and we do see upside potential if we execute well by engaging the much larger set of consumers who were introduced to the Call Of Duty franchise in 2009." I have something to say to Activision.... A long time before the release of MW2 we were hitted by tons of ads, trailers, screenshots, infos, etc... We don't know nothing so far about the next release. How much money do you put down for advertising? as much as for MW2? Where are all the ads on major sites, store ads, tv ads, etc like you did for MW2? Where are the trailers, pictures, previews, etc like you did for MW2? So far the only thing we know about that is that Treyarch is working on a new game, supposively a Vietnam war game.... But that's it. Where are the goodies that will come with the game like the night vision goggles and other gadgets, etc.... like you did with MW2? You spent millions of dollars in advertising of all kinds for MW2.... So far you didn't even confirm publicly this new game. There was already an official forum/site/blog/twitter/facebook, etc... long time before the release of MW2.... what about CoD7? So how this next game can be more popular or even as popular as MW2 if you don't do the same advertising and don't invest the same amount of money? PC community were screwed with MW2/iwnet... Will it be the same with CoD7? Will this game have dedicated server access, mod tools, etc? Answer these questions and start advertising like you did with MW2 and maybe you'll see more people interested in you next Call of Duty release. |

RE: Call Of Duty 7 won't be as big as Modern Warfare 2 - Activision
In my opinion I think COD7 will be a big hit, no matter what comes out around the time. There are lots COD fans out there, who will prioritize this game (one being me).And if it is like COD WaW, but better I will be very chuffed a I'm a big fan of WaW. I've heard the game may be set in the cold war. If it is I see no campaign? Being as though nothing happened in the cold war, would make no sense for any sort of campaign... I think Activision should spend longing during development and trials of its games, the average call of duty comes out every 12 months, and usually on the same engine as before.... you cant help but feel they are not putting the effort in
